History of Nightwolves Wrestling Club
Nightwolves Wrestling Club was founded by coach Maksym Volkov, a Canadian Champion and internationally recognized wrestler, with the mission to revive and grow the sport of wrestling in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The journey began with just a small group of athletes training together under Maksym’s guidance. Driven by passion, discipline, and a belief that wrestling can transform lives, the team quickly grew. Within the first year, Nightwolves Wrestling attracted over 45 dedicated students, each inspired by the club’s commitment to excellence on and off the mat.
Despite limited resources, the club achieved remarkable success. Maksym organized the first independent wrestling tournament in Newfoundland and Labrador, gathering more than 100 athletes and over 200 spectators, proving that the community was ready to embrace the sport once again. The team also secured nine sponsorships to support athletes in training and travel, demonstrating strong trust and recognition from local partners.
Nightwolves Wrestling is proud of its achievements on the national and international stage. Club members have already earned provincial, national, and international medals, with Maksym himself becoming the first athlete to bring a Canadian Championship gold medal in wrestling to Newfoundland and Labrador.
What makes Nightwolves Wrestling unique is not only competitive results but also its values. The club provides free training opportunities for children whose families cannot afford sports programs, ensuring that every young person has a chance to grow through wrestling.
Today, Nightwolves Wrestling stands as a symbol of resilience and ambition. The club’s goal is clear: to establish wrestling as a leading Olympic sport in the province, develop future champions, and create a lasting legacy for the community.
